Important Update: Changes in Congregate Meals and Home Delivered Meals

In keeping with recommendations from NCDHHS and the CDC, we have made changes to our meal programs to protect our most vulnerable population. The following is subject to change depending on guidance from the state or federal government.

  • Changes in Meals for Congregate: As of July 11, 2022, congregate participants may choose to return to our Senior Nutrition Site at Troy Senior Center Monday - Friday.  Individuals may also choose to continue to receive frozen meals weekly.
  • Changes in Meals for Home Delivered Meals: All HDM clients will receive a delivery of frozen meals each week.

The Home Delivered Meals program, better known as Meals on Wheel, serves nutritious meals to Montgomery County citizens age 60 or older who are homebound and can't shop or prepare their own meals. In addition Meals on Wheels provides daily or weekly contact for individuals who may not have regular visits from friends and family. Our mission is to help seniors continue to live in their own homes.

Who is eligible for Meals on Wheels?

  • You must be 60 or older.
  • You aren't able to shop for food or prepare meals and have no person able to prepare meals for you.
  • You can't attend one of the congregate meal sites in the County due to a physical or mental impairment.

How Can I Sign up for Meals?

Please call Meals On Wheels at (910) 572-0050 or send an email to  mow@montgomerycountync.gov. A member of DSS will help you complete an application for services. Approval depends on where you live in the County, the current waiting list, and the availability of routes and volunteers. The application process takes two to three weeks. Meals on Wheel serves all areas of the county, including Troy, Biscoe, Star, Candor, and Mt. Gilead.

How Can I Volunteer?

Volunteers are the heart of the Meals on Wheels program. In addition to coordinating the meal drop sites and delivering meals, volunteers provide friendly contact to homebound seniors. You may choose how long and how often you volunteer based on your schedule.

We are always recruiting volunteers. Please contact Hannah Kimbrell at the contact information above for more information about volunteer opportunities.
