Missions of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office include:

  • Serving court documents such as subpoenas and warrants for the Montgomery County Clerk of Court
  • Providing courtroom security
  • Providing law enforcement in all areas of the county not served by municipal police departments
  • Providing a Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.)
  • Issuing permits to purchase handguns and to carry concealed handguns
  • Registration of sexual offenders
  • Staffing and operating the Montgomery County Jail
  • Providing a law enforcement presence in Montgomery County's middle and high schools through the assignment of individual School Resource Officers at each of those schools
  • Providing a dynamic D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program at all grade levels in all county schools
  • Presenting the C.A.R.E. (Child Abuse Reduction Effort) program to all county second graders in an effort to help them understand the difference between appropriate and inappropriate adult behavior regarding their personal safety
  • Staffing and supporting the Montgomery County 911 Communications Center

Deputies patrol the county 24 hours a day every day of the year. Similarly, telephone contact with a Sheriff's Office representative is always available at either 910-572-1313 for non-emergency requests or 911 for emergency requests, regardless of the time of day or night. The Sheriff's Office building at 111 West Main Street in Troy is open to the public between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Parking is available in front of the building on West Main Street, as well as in the public parking area directly behind the NAPA store next door to the Sheriff's Office. Please use the public entrance facing West Main Street, directly across the street from the Servco gas station.

Montgomery County Jail

The Montgomery County Jail is located on the third floor of the County Courthouse building. It is accessible by elevator from the rear entrance of the building. The elevator exits into a secure receiving area on the third floor. The jail is divided into two housing areas, the East Hall and the West Hall, with separate visitation policies for each hall. While adult male inmates may be housed in either hall, adult and juvenile female inmates are housed exclusively in the East Hall, and juvenile male inmates are housed exclusively in the West Hall. All visitors must present picture identification, and each inmate may receive up to three visitors during a single visitation period, but they must all visit at the same time. Multiple individual visits with a single inmate during a single visitation period are not permitted. Visitation hours are:

  • East Hall: Saturday between the hours of 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM for adult male inmates, and between the hours of 8:00 PM and 8:20 PM for female inmates
  • West Hall: Wednesday between the hours of 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM for adult male inmates, and between the hours of 8:00 PM and 8:20 PM for juvenile male inmates

Montgomery County Jail Visitation Rules

  • All visitors are to enter the facility from the elevator on the third floor
  • isitors are required to register with the Jail Officer at the service window
  • Proper attire is required for all visitors. Clothing with profanity, pornography, and/or political statements is not considered to be appropriate. All overcoats, purses, umbrellas, and similar garments must be kept in the visitor's possession. ALL VISITS ARE NON-CONTACT VISITS.
  • Visitors are subject to search by the facility staff. Refusal to submit to this search is grounds for denying the visit.
  • Any visitor attempting to bring any item of contraband into the facility will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Additionally, anyone who brings contraband of any kind to the jail will not be allowed to visit for thirty (30) days. The inmate that was to receive the contraband will lose all visitation rights for thirty (30) days.
  • Visitors who are intoxicated or displaying uncooperative behavior will not be permitted to visit.
  • Inmates and visitors will conduct themselves appropriately at all times. When an inmate or visitor does not conduct himself/herself properly, the Jail Officer will terminate the visit.
