Missions of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office include:

  • Serving court documents such as subpoenas and warrants for the Montgomery County Clerk of Court
  • Providing courtroom security
  • Providing law enforcement in all areas of the county not served by municipal police departments
  • Providing a Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.)
  • Issuing permits to purchase handguns and to carry concealed handguns
  • Registration of sexual offenders
  • Staffing and operating the Montgomery County Jail
  • Providing a law enforcement presence in Montgomery County's middle and high schools through the assignment of individual School Resource Officers at each of those schools
  • Providing a dynamic D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program at all grade levels in all county schools
  • Presenting the C.A.R.E. (Child Abuse Reduction Effort) program to all county second graders in an effort to help them understand the difference between appropriate and inappropriate adult behavior regarding their personal safety

Deputies patrol the county 24 hours a day every day of the year. Similarly, telephone contact with a Sheriff's Office representative is always available at either 910-572-1313 for non-emergency requests or 911 for emergency requests, regardless of the time of day or night. The Sheriff's Office building at 111 West Main Street in Troy is open to the public between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Parking is available in front of the building on West Main Street, as well as in the public parking area . Please use the public entrance facing West Main Street.
