63rd or 64th? Annual Star Christmas Parade and Associated Events Are Saturday!!!
The 63rd Annual Star Christmas Parade sponsored by the Halcyon Woman's Club is one of the oldest and longest in North Carolina and it is THIS Saturday at 2pm! (Despite pictures from last year's parade saying it was the 63rd, Star leaders have found information indicating that this year is the 63rd!!!)
The festivities in Star actually begin with the Twinkle Toes running races at 8am with a 1-mile fun run and at 9am with a 5K race. Those events are sponsored by and begin at the Star Elementary School.
The Star post office will be open from 8a-Noon. Since Star was designated as a Christmas Town by the United States Postal Service in 1987, letters with stamps attached can be placed in a box marked as "special cancellation" to have them canceled with the annual Star Christmas stamp.
Historical sites in Star like the Old Jail, Star History Museum and Leach Cabin will be open from 10a-1p. Yellow flags will be out on Main Street at historical places.
Star Auto Center will be open from 10a-1p where children can color, paint and enjoy story-telling AND there will be a visit from Santa from 10:30a-11:30a.
The Christmas Parade will begin at 2pm rain or shine and pre-registration is NOT required. It is first come for the line up, but contact Cindy Johnson at (910) 220-5532 if you plan to participate.
Following the parade at 7pm at the Star Elementary School will be the 62nd Annual Miss Merry Christmas Pageant sponsored by the Halcyon Woman's Club. For more information on that event contact Patricia Hyde at (910) 573-1374.
