Deputy Sheriff

Deputy Sheriffs are responsible for providing public safety, protecting property, investigating crimes, enforcing statutes and ordinances, serving criminal and civil processes as well as responding to calls for service throughout Montgomery County.  Qualified individuals should contact the sheriff's office to ascertain if there are employment opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license
  • Must submit to a background check and drug screening
  • Must be able to work various shifts
  • Must have not been convicted of any felonies or certain misdemeanors
  • Must have completed Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) or be near completion

Job Description:
A Deputy Sheriff's duties are to include but not limited to conducting preliminary criminal investigation, service of criminal and civil process, patrolling assigned areas, correction of public safety hazards, restoring order, maintaining peace at public gatherings, participating in the planning and execution of raids and searches, pursuing and apprehending suspects, preparing and presenting case evidence in court, transporting mental subjects to mental hospitals and directing traffic for funeral processions.

Qualified applicants can submit a completed Personal History Statement (F-3), a photocopy of their current North Carolina driver's license and a photocopy of their birth certificate at the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office during business hours.

 

Detention Officer

Detention Officers perform difficult protective service and human support work ensuring the care and security of inmates at the Montgomery County Detention Center. Qualified applicants should check with the Montgomery County Detention Center to ascertain if there are employment opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license
  • Must submit to a background check and drug screening
  • Must be able to work various shifts
  • Must have not been convicted of any felonies or certain misdemeanors
  • Must be able to successfully complete a Detention Officer Certification course

Job Description:
A Detention Officer’s responsibilities are to include but not limited to standing for long periods of time, walking 100 yards or more 24-36 times in a 12 hour shift and use stairs frequently, heavy lifting, physical confrontations, good communication skills, knowledge of basic computer skills.

Qualified applicants can submit a completed Personal History Statement (F-3), a photocopy of their current North Carolina driver's license and a photocopy of their birth certificate at the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Monday thru Friday from 8am-5pm.
